• OMC 985963 / 0985963 Cobra Transom Plate Gimbal Housing Assembly (1989) 914037 (Stamped)
  • 986717 / 0986717 (Related & Superseded Part numbers)
  • This is a 1989-style Housing (Steering Lever Cap is separate from the top cover) but can replace the 1986-1987 housings as a whole assembly. However, 1989 models typically had their own special housing that used exhaust pipes specific to 1989 models, but I know all of the 1986-1989 models supersede to the same 986717 number so I assume there has to be a degree of interchangeability as the exhaust flange is the same shape & bolt pattern.

Essential This is a complete intact assembly minus the Bell Housing (Pivot Housing) and assorted Hoses / Bellows and other fittings. You would need a special tool to remove or replace the steering arm or gimbal ring, so we decided to just leave this as a whole complete assembly.

This would have been found on all of the standard OMC Cobra models 1988-1989 (and some of the "Baby King Cobra" models 1986-1989) regardless of engine configuration. However, you can use this to replace one from 1986-1987 as well. So In short... This is compatible with any 1986-1989 Cobra Applications..... 1990-1993 used a different exhaust pipe bolt pattern, so don't use this to replace one of those.
