Early Style MerCruiser Pre-Alpha One Gearcase Lower Unit Gear Set... Roughly 1965 to the early 1970's

Part Number(s) Included

  • 43-55812 / 43-35922 (Pinion Gear) (19 Teeth.... If it has 20 teeth it is the 1973-1977 gear set)
  • 43-37964 (Reverse Gear)
  • 43-35930 / 43-35930A2 (Forward Gear)

General Application / Compatibility

  • MerCruiser Sterndrive Alpha One Lower Unit Complete Gear set That was generally found in 1965-Early 1970's models (Pinion, Forward, Reverse) (Serial Numbers 1776349-3469427 and usually found on bearing carriers either stamped 52835 or 56211)
    • Used in MerCruiser IA / IB / IC EZ-Shift / MC "120" / MC "160" 1965-Early 1970's but also could be used as a complete set in 1978-1982 units if you use all of the gears here.
    • (If your driveshaft HAS A PRELOAD PIN then these are the correct parts, if your's does NOT have a preload pin, then these are NOT the correct gears)
      • The time period 1965-1982 should be the time period that covers when the drives still had the preload pin, but the easiest way to identify what type of gears is whether or not there is a preload pin, and by physically looking at the gears once removed you can see they have a different rotation of how the teeth are cut.
        • 1965-1969 gearcases have 8-splines on the driveshaft rather than 13 (1970-1982)
      • Gearcase Must have Preload pin and be within drive serial number range 1776349-3469427
      • This particular gear set from this time generally didn't have physical stamped part numbers on it unlike subsequent gearsets from the mid-70's & beyond.
